abstract = {At the turn of the millennium, the Portuguese architectural landscape is undergoing rapid
and significant transformation: the economic optimism of the 1990s is fading, the number of
schools is increasing, the profession is rejuvenating, the number of paper publications and
new communication platforms are increasing. It is in this context that Jornal Arquitectos,
the official communication medium of the Portuguese Architects Association, is transformed,
under Manuel Graça Dias direction, in an unexpected way: from a corporate newspaper
into a culturalist magazine. As is well known, any specialized publication shapes and
bounds a disciplinary knowledge and practice, consolidating, inadvertently or strategically,
an architect’s “ideal-type”. By subverting its expectations, this Jornal Arquitectos series –albeit
not exclusively– shaped an image of an architect that served as a reference for an entire
professional class.},
abstract = {Con el cambio de milenio, el paisaje arquitectónico portugués está experimentando una
transformación rápida y significativa: el optimismo económico de los años 90 se desvanece,
aumenta el número de escuelas, la profesión rejuvenece, aumentan las publicaciones en
papel y las nuevas plataformas de comunicación. Es en este contexto que Jornal Arquitectos,
el medio de comunicación oficial de lo Colegio de Arquitectos portugueses, se transforma,
bajo la dirección de Manuel Graça Dias, de manera inesperada: de periódico corporativo a
revista culturalista. Como es sabido, cualquier publicación especializada moldea y delimita
un saber y una práctica disciplinaria, consolidando, inadvertida o estratégicamente, el “tipo-
ideal” de un arquitecto. Al subvertir sus expectativas, esta serie del Jornal Arquitectos
–aunque no exclusivamente– formó una imagen de un arquitecto que sirvió como referencia
para toda una clase profesional.},
