Vejez y sociedad multicultural

Abstract

¿Cuál es la consideración de los ancianos en la sociedad actual? España vive un momento demográfico caracterizado por el envejecimiento progresivo de la población, un descenso espectacular la tasa de natalidad y un aumento gradual de la tasa de dependencia. No obstante, la población sigue creciendo en virtud, fundamentalmente, de dos factores: el crecimiento vegetativo propio de la población y la llegada de inmigrantes. En este texto se hace un breve análisis de las relaciones que existen entre el envejecimiento de la población española, los ancianos y la inmigración, para introducir finalmente una reflexión sobre la vejez en la sociedad multicultural en la que estamos avanzando.

What role do the elderly play in modern society? Currently, Spain is at a demographic moment characterized by progressive aging of the population, a spectacular descent in birth rate, and a gradual increase in the rate of dependence. Nevertheless, the population continues to grow by way of two fundamental factors: the vegetative growth characteristic of the population, and the arrival of immigrants. In this text, we make a brief analysis of the relationships that exist between the aging of the Spanish population, the elderly, and immigration, ultimately in order to offer a reflection on age in the multicultural society in which we live.
