Abstract
Psychometric characteristics of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale
are studied in a instrumental study in relation to the Beck Depression Inventory with
population from the Costa del Sol and Axarquia of Malaga (Spain). Specifically, internal
consistency and factor analysis of the Edinburgh Postnatal Scale have been analysed,
in addition to concurrent validity and diagnostic efficient between scales. A sample of
mothers are selected at the postpartum discharge. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression
Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory were used simultaneously in the hospital
where the mothers had their delivery. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale is
basically grouped around two factors (sadness and anxiety). This scale shows a high
internal consistency (0,79). In general, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale converges
with the Beck Depression Inventory, except two items. The Edinburgh Postnatal
Depression Scale has the powerfully diagnostic and the 8 point is the most suitable to
classify mothers with depression mood, with reference to the Beck Depression Inventory.
as escalas.
A Escala
