Las regiones litorales, donde interactúan los medio terrestre, marino y
humano, son las más pobladas del planeta. Ello hace necesaria una correcta
Gestión Integral de Zonas Costeras que asegure un desarrollo sostenible y
que garantice la correcta administración de sus recursos.
Es por tanto imprescindible un conocimiento preciso del comportamiento de
la costa, bajo los diferentes agentes que la pueden forzar (p.ej. oleaje), que permita así
predecir su respuesta ante futuros eventos.
De entre esos eventos, los más importantes son las tormentas asociadas al
paso de borrascas, ya que debido a su alto contenido energético son las
que provocan los mayores cambios en la costa a corto y medio plazo.
Por ello, el objetivo fundamental de este proyecto fin de carrera ha sido
analizar y comparar (1) el efecto que eventos de contenido energético
moderado y extremo tienen sobre playas de sedimentos fino y mixto y (2) la
regeneración natural (en su caso) tras el paso del evento. Se han
seleccionado dos playas para llevar a cabo el estudio: Trafalgar (Cádiz) y
Carchuna (Granada), que son representativas de los dos tipos principales
de playa existentes en la costa andaluza: la atlántica y la mediterránea.
Las playas atlánticas, de carácter disipativo, están caracterizadas por
suaves pendientes, sedimento homogéneo y de tamaño medio-fino, un clima
marítimo con oleaje de gran contenido energético y periodos largos (asociados a oleajes
plenamente desarrollados) generado en el atlántico y rangos de marea astronómica
mesomareales. Por el contrario, las
mediterráneas, con carácter semireflejante, presentan mayores pendientes, sedimento
heterogéneo de tamaño fino a
grueso, un oleaje con menores alturas de ola y periodos bajos y una
carrera media de marea astronómica con frecuencia despreciable.
La playa de Trafalgar tiene una longitud de unos 2 km y está caracterizada
por una alineación noroeste-sureste, un tamaño medio de sedimento de 0.5mm
y una carrera media de marea de 2m. La zona representativa de litoral
mediterráneo ha sido la playa de Carchuna (Granada), con una alineación
este-oeste, tamaño de grano medio entre 0.1 y 50 mm y carrera media de
marea de unos 50 cm.
La metodología para llevar a cabo el estudio se ha basado en tres aspectos
esenciales: (1) datos de oleaje en profundidades indefinidas (red de
medida de Puertos del Estado, Ministerio de Fomento), (2) video-imágenes
procedentes de las estaciones de video monitorización costera que el Grupo
de Dinámica de Fluidos Ambientales (Universidad de Granada) tiene
instaladas en las dos zonas de estudio y (3) modelos numéricos de
propagación de oleaje.
