Mujeres y poder en el islam. II: La Reina Libre sulayhí al-Sayyida (Arwà) bint Ahmad (440-532/1048-9-1138)

Abstract

Este trabajo es una biografía y estudio de la Reina Libre al-Sayyida bint Ahmad de la dinastía de los sulayhíes de Yemen. Al-Sayyida al- Hurra fue un gran personaje político en su época y su figura tiene un protagonismo especial en la historia de Yemen y del ismaelismo y sobre todo en el ismaelismo tayyibí, al ser ella quien diera origen a esta nueva orden religiosa. No sólo destaca como gran referente de mujer gobernante árabe y musulmana de la Edad Media, sino también como ejemplo histórico de una mujer musulmana con liderazgo religioso al haberle sido otorgado el cargo de huyya de Yemen por el imán fatimí al-Mustansir. Al-Sayyida fue precursora de grandes obras sociales y arquitectónicas y su gobierno supuso una etapa de esplendor en el Yemen medieval.

Study and biography of the Free Queen al-Sayyida bint Ah mad, of the Sulayhid dynasty from Yemen. Al-Sayyida al- Hurra was an important political figure of her time and she played a special role in the history of Yemen and the Ismaelism, and above all she was the founder of the tayyibi Ismaelism, the new religious order. She didn’t stand out just as an influential ruler and Arabic and Muslim woman during the Middle Ages, but also as a historical example of feminine Muslim leadership, when the Fatimid imam al-Munstansir appointed her as as huyya of Yemen. Al-Sayyida was forerunner of great social and architectural works and her government entailed a period of splendour in the medieval Yemen.
