Se hace un estudio integral de la cuenca del rio Gualchos, en el que se incluye un análisis de los factores del medio físico que contribuyen de una forma significativa en el desarrollo de los suelos. Asimismo se levantan mapas de pendientes, suelos, capacidad de uso y erosión de la cuenca. Datos todos ellos de gran interés para el conocimiento y planificación de la cuenca sur mediterráneo. El desarrollo geomorfológico de la cuenca se justifica considerando a esta como una cuenca cerrada que se colmato en época pliocuaternaria y posteriormente tras una fuerte sucidencia se abrió al mar quedando relictos, restos de terraza fijados a la red hídrica secundaria en su contacto con la rambla principal (rambla del río Gualchos). Los suelos de estas terrazas son objeto de un estudio particular, dado su interés ecológico y el peculiar desarrollo solo justificable con el estudio micromorfológico y tras el estudio químico del hierro, aluminio y silice en sus distintas formas. Los suelos que constituyen esta unidad son cambisoles cromicos y leptosoles eutricos.
