Con este método se consigue la investigación de los anticuerpos IgG de baja avidez en el transcurso de la infecciones por el virus de la rubeola, herpes simple, citomegálico y Toxoplasma gondii (mediante ELISA) y por el virus del herpes humano tipo 6 (mediante inmunofluorescencia), mediante la modificación de pruebas ya comercializadas, para mejorar el diagnóstico de laboratorio de las mismas. Para ello se incorpora una sistancia (Urea 8 molar durante 5 minutos y a 37 ºC tras la incubación inicial de la muestra de suero), anteriormente no utilizada con este fin en esas pruebas comerciales, para el cálculo, de manera significativa en el diagnóstico, de los anticuerpos IgG de baja avidez por el antígeno. Porcentajes superiores al 55% de IgG con baja avidez por el antígeno (mediante ELISA) o reducciones dobles en el título de IgG calculado con urea (mediante inmunofluorescencia) se asocian a primoinfección por ese microorganismo.
