¿Desarrollo o decadencia? La Esmeralda como modelo de progreso para los yanomami del Alto Orinoco Acuña Delgado, Ángel Yanomami Desarrollo La Esmeralda Alto Orinoco Venezuela Development La Esmeralda ocupa la cabecera del municipio Alto Orinoco dentro del Estado Amazonas (Venezuela). Los yanomami, grupo étnico más numeroso de la zona, no tienen residencia fija en dicho lugar pero sí acuden regularmente a él, por ser el espacio más próximo donde se reproduce, supuestamente, el esquema más avanzado de la sociedad rural venezolana. Pero ¿qué encuentran en ese lugar? ¿Cuál es el modelo de desarrollo que desde allí se les propone? A ello responderemos en base a la experiencia de campo, presentando actitudes y comportamientos que se encuentran cargados de espejismos culturales. The Esmeralda occupies the head board of the municipality of Alto Orinoco in the State The Amazon (Venezuela). The Yanomami, the most numerous ethnic group of the zone, do not have fixed residences in the above-mentioned place but they do go regularly to it, for being the nearest area where supposedly the most advanced scheme of the rural Venezuelan society is reproduced. But what do they find in this place? What is the model of development which is proposed from there?
