Tiempo y suicidio. Contribución antropológica a una discusión transdisciplinar

Abstract

Este artículo pone en relación el suicidio, entendido como un fenómeno social, con el tiempo. Nos damos cuenta de que el suicidio es un acto que se inscribe en el tiempo, tanto a nivel del acto individual en si mismo -la clausura del propio tiempo de vida-, como por las dimensiones temporales (ecológicas y sociales) que enmarcan el acto del suicidio y en cuyo estudio descubrimos ciertas regularidades o ritmicidades. Partiendo de un debate propio de la antropología del tiempo, como es la relación entre el tiempo de la naturaleza y el tiempo de la sociedad, abordamos uno de los temas claves del estudio del suicidio ya enunciados por Durkheim, la relación entre el cambio -que es una expresión básica del tiempo- y el suicidio.

This article links suicide –understood as a social phenomenon- with time. Suicide is seen as an act inscribed in the time, both at the level of the individual act in itself (the ending of one’s own time of life) and at the level of the temporal dimensions (ecological as well as social) that frame the act of suicide, in which study we can find certain regularities or rhythms. Starting from a debate of the Anthropology of time, as it is the relationship between the time of the nature and the time of the society, we approach one of the key subjects in the study of suicide already articulated by Durkheim: the relationship between change, which is a basic expression of time, and suicide.
