Fronteras estatales y relaciones sociales en la frontera hispano-portuguesa. El caso de Barrancos y Oliva de la Frontera

Abstract

Los estudios de las zonas fronterizas muestran una clara oposición entre la lógica del Estado y la lógica de las populaciones locales. En la frontera hispano-portuguesa las relaciones sociales entre los pueblos de Barrancos y Oliva de la Frontera, a lo largo del tiempo, permiten identificar las ambigüedades entre la "frontera política", definida y vigilada por los Estados Ibéricos, y la "frontera cuotidiana", cruzada, transgredida y reinventada por las gentes. A pesar de su abolición, la frontera reconfigurase hoy como materia de patrimonio identitario.

Studies conducted concerning borderlines demonstrate a clear opposition between State logic and the logic of the local populations. In the Spanish-Portuguese frontier, the social relations established between the villages of Barrancos and Oliva de la Frontera have over the years, permitted the identification of the existent ambiguities that cross the "political borders", defined and watched over by the Iberian States, and the "daily border", transposed, transgressed and reinvented by the local people. In spite of its abolition, the border is now reconfigured as a matter of identity heritage.
