Es posible perseguir la genealogía del pensamiento de Lévi-Strauss siguiendo la pista de los filósofos a los que hace referencia. Destaca su rechazo de la filosofía dominante en Occidente, tanto la filosofía del sujeto como el enfoque empirista. Su método, el análisis estructural en antropología, es específicamente propio. Y la acusación de "mentalismo" carece de fundamento.

It is possible to follow the genealogy of Lévi-Strauss' thought, following the trail of the philosophers to whom he refers. He highlights their rejection of the dominant Western philosophy, as much philosophy of the individual as emprical philosophy. His method, the structural analysis in anthropology, is specifically his own; the accusation of "mentalism" has no real foundation.
