On Kawara. Análisis temporal de la serie Today

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza el uso de la repetición como recurso plástico en arte contemporáneo, centrándose en su utilización como herramienta para estudiar, analizar y cuestionar el tiempo desde el lenguaje artístico. Con esta finalidad el artículo se centra en el trabajo de On Kawara (1933- 2014) que basa sus proyectos artísticos en la demostración del tiempo, de su naturaleza específica y su relación con el espacio. Se propone una aproximación temporal basada en la clasificación de los diferentes tipos de tiempos en una obra de arte que plantean Umberto Eco y Omar Calabrese. Y también un análisis diferenciado entre la temporalidad de uno solo de los cuadros que conforman la serie (Date Paintings) y la serie completa.

This paper analyses the use of repetition as a visual resource in contemporary art, focusing on its use as a tool to study, analyze and question time from the viewpoint of artistic language. For this purpose, the article studies the work of On Kawara (1933-2014) who bases his projects in the presentation of time, of its specific nature and of its relation to space. A temporary approach, based on the classification of different types of time in a work of art by Umberto Eco and Omar Calabrese, is proposed. And a differential analysis between the temporality of one of the pictures included in the series (Date Paintings) and the entire series
