Aproximación a la primera periferia al sur de Granada: De las huertas a las villas urbanas (1920-1951)

Abstract

Las primeras periferias fueron el soporte del crecimiento de muchas ciudades a través de un proceso agregativo mediante el cual se consolidaron soluciones espaciales inmediatas a las nuevas necesidades socioeconómicas. En la actualidad, estos ámbitos han adquirido características centrales y precisan construir su historiografía. El relato preciso de su pasado ha de recomponer sus bases y singularidades para poder afrontar con criterio las exigencias urbanas contemporáneas. El artículo se centra en el período de génesis del “Distrito Sur de Granada”, primera extensión del centro de la ciudad hacia el sur, como muestra de una historia de los hechos urbanos que necesita localizar momentos clave. Según una transformación paulatina desde su matriz agrícola, de forma fragmentada y sin modelos globales de crecimiento, esta “fundación periférica” se comportó desde el principio como un laboratorio del urbanismo y de la arquitectura del momento, muestra de la confluencia entre tradición y producción de nuevas formulaciones tipológicas residenciales.

The first peripheries were supporting growth of many cities in aggregative process by which immediate spatial solutions to the new socioeconomic needs were given. Currently, these areas have gained central characteristics and need to build their historiography. The story of their past has to rebuild its bases and singularities, in order to deal with contemporary urban requirements. The article focuses on the period of genesis of “South District of Granada”, first extension to the south, as a sign of an urban history that needs to locate key moments or periods. In a process of gradual transformation from agricultural matrix, in a fragmented way and without global growth models, from the beginning this peripheral “foundation” was testing laboratory of urbanism and architecture of the time, and shows the confluence of tradition and production of new residential typological formulations.
