El Kolectivo Poroto, Hombres POR OTrOS vínculos de Santiago de Chile

Abstract

Los estudios de masculinidades en los últimos años han tenido relevancia, visibilidad, recursos económicos, se han vuelto centrales en los estudios de género, la inclusión de la perspectiva de los hombres resulta fundamental, parece ser un tema muy atractivo y “en boga” en la actualidad. Al mismo tiempo han emergido varios grupos de varones militantes que se definen “hombres nuevos”, anti-patriarcales y/o no patriarcales, pro-feministas, “por la igualdad” etc. planteando la posibilidad de construir modelos alternativos a la masculinidad hegemónica. Frente a esto me sitúo desde la sospecha feminista y me pregunto si es posible ser varón y feminista, entendiendo que la categoría “varón” es de por sí una categoría de poder que desde su privilegio construye, crea la categoría de opresión “mujer”. Por este motivo he decidido acercarme al trabajo del grupo de hombres feministas Kolectivo Poroto, Hombres POR OTrOS Vínculos, de Santiago de Chile, con la siguiente pregunta de investigación: de qué modo el Kolectivo desarrolla su política para enfrentar su desafío de hacer que “los hombres seamos conscientes de nuestra condición de sujetos privilegiados y caminemos, desde la deconstrucción permanente de la masculinidad hegemónica hacia una comunidad basada en la equidad efectiva de género”. A partir de lo anterior el objetivo general de la investigación es: Explorar los posicionamientos, perspectivas, discursos, prácticas, tensiones y contradicciones del Kolectivo Poroto en el marco del movimiento feminista a partir de las experiencias narradas por varones que forman parte de él. Esta es una investigación feminista implicada en tanto que me reconozco como privilegiada desde la relación de colonialidad y raza y considero relevante observar y analizar las intersecciones de los diferentes sistemas de opresión (género, raza, clase, edad, territorio). El estudio se define metodológicamente como una investigación cualitativa de carácter exploratorio. En tanto que proceso inductivo basado en la recolección de datos y el análisis contemporáneo de los mismos con el objetivo de construir una teoría novedosa a partir de los hallazgos, se inscribe en la Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967; Charmaz, 2014).

During the last years men and masculinities studies have increased in relevancy, visibility, economical investments; the inclusion of a men’s perspective gained more and more importance throughout the years and became an attractive and “in vogue” subject. In fact, within the academia, they have started to occupy a central place in the gender studies departments while, at the same time, different groups of activists began to defined themselves such as “new”, “antipatriarcal” and “feminist” men. Being aware of this situation, this research positioned itself from a feminist suspicion and proposed the following question: is it possible to be a man and be feminist considering that the category “man” is in itself a powerful one, from which the oppressive category “woman” has been created? Starting from this question, the research approached the work of a men’s group called Kolectivo Poroto, Hombres POR OTrOS Vínculos based in Santiago de Chile. The research question was constructed using the collective’s own words: how do the men in the Kolectivo Poroto develop their activism aimed to become men “aware of *their+ privilege condition and walk from the permanent deconstruction of hegemonic masculinity to a community based on effective gender equality”? On the basis of this foregoing, the main aim of the research is: to explore standpoints, perspectives, discourses, practices, tensions and contradictions of Kolectivo Poroto within the framework of feminist movement starting from experiences related by participants. This is a situated feminist research, in which I recognize myself as a privileged subject, both from race and colonial power relationships and I consider important to observe and to analyse the intersection between different systems of oppression (gender, race, class, age, territory) Furthermore, the research had an exploratory aim and it defined itself methodologically as a qualitative investigation by being positioned in the framework of the Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967; Charmaz, 2014), an inductive process based on the contemporary gathering and analysis of data aimed to construct an original theory which start from the findings.
