Abstract

Santa María de Ateca, BIC, es un templo construido a finales del s. XIII, ampliado en el XVI y muy transformado en época barroca. Su magnífica torre, originalmente exenta, es una de las referencias del mudéjar aragonés. Las intervenciones de restauración están devolviendo al conjunto su integridad y ayudando a conocer su historia constructiva y artística. Pero también están alterándolo y son ya parte de su historia. Conocer el proceso, los métodos y la evolución de los criterios utilizados, es importante para entender el monumento y para tomar decisiones en relación a intervenciones futuras.

Santa María de Ateca is a temple declared BIC (Cultural Property) built at the end of the 13th century, enlarged in the 16th century and deeply transformed during the Baroque period. Its magnificent tower, originally freestanding, is one of the highlights of the Aragonese mudejar. Restoration works are returning integrity to the building and helping to know about its constructive and artistic history. But they are also transforming it and becoming part of its history. Learning about the restoration process and methods and about the evolution of the criteria guiding them is important to understand the monument and to make decisions concerning its future interventions.
