Conciliando el tangible con el intangible: una reflexión integral sobre el patrimonio

Abstract

En los últimos tiempos hemos asistido a una creciente complejidad y diversificación de las definiciones de patrimonio por parte de la UNESCO. Hemos pasado de bienes muebles e inmuebles a paisajes y sitios patrimoniales y, recientemente, intangibles, que nutren el concepto de patrimonio de un conjunto de nociones complejas como las de cultura, identidad y memoria, por ejemplo. Se ha vuelto evidente que no sólo la UNESCO, sino también las distintas entidades que se dedican a salvaguardar el patrimonio de cada país, están ahora preocupadas con la protección e incorporación de elementos intangibles. Este texto intenta explicar que estos elementos siempre han estado presentes en el concepto de patrimonio (en sus más variadas dimensiones) y que éste es una relación armoniosa entre lo material y lo inmaterial.

In recent times we have witnessed a growing complexity and diversity of the definitions of heritage developed by UNESCO. We have passed from movable and immovable properties to cultural landscapes and heritage sites, and recently to the intangible heritage. These categories have nurtured heritage concept with a set of complex notions such as culture, identity and memory. It has become clear that not only UNESCO, but also the different agencies engaged on the protection of heritage in each country are now concerned with the protection and incorporation of intangible elements. This paper tries to explain that these elements have always been present in the concept of heritage (in its most diverse dimensions) and that heritage is a harmonious relationship between tangible and intangible aspects.
