Endeudamiento municipal, mercado financiero y tesoros en Andalucía. Los censualistas del concejo malagueño. (Siglos XVI y XVII)

Abstract

El endeudamiento de las haciendas locales durante los siglos XVI y XVII constituye un fenómeno de hondas consecuencias, tanto económicas como políticas. El interés potencial que entraña la documentación fiscal generada por la monarquía en las corporaciones municipales parece actualizarse en el presente estudio. Un análisis concienzudo de los préstamos hipotecarios del cabildo malagueño arroja, en efecto, cierta luz sobre las características del mercado financiero andaluz en las mencionadas centurias. No se trata tanto de novedosos descubrimientos sobre esa problemática, como de la matización, profundización o ratificación de algunas interpretaciones historiográficas, enfocadas aquí desde perspectivas diferentes. Es el caso de la polémica suscitada en torno a la circulación de metales preciosos, así como las distintas actitudes mercantiles adoptadas por los grupos sociales.

The debts contracted by local estates in the 16th and 17th Centuries were important in that they had both political as well as economic consequences. The vital interest of financial documents issued by the monarchy in the municipal corporations is brought up to date in this article. A detailed analysis of the mortgage loans of the Malaga town council sheds new light on the characteristics of the Andalusian financial market in the 16th and 17th centuries. More than new discoveries, this article is an in-depth study ratifying certain historical interpretations viewed here from a new perspective. Such is the case, for example, with the controversy over the circulation of precious metals, as well as the different positions regarding commerce adopted by different social groups.
