Alejandro de Humboldt y las fuentes escritas del “Ensayo Político sobre el Reino de las Nueva España”

Abstract

Este artículo analiza cuáles fueron las fuentes escritas que sirvieron a Humboldt para la elaboración de su Ensayo. Se destaca la generosa acogida por parte del virrey Iturrigaray y las facilidades dispensadas al sabio berlinés para acceder a la documentación oficial. Por otro lado, utilizó abundante información ofrecida por los particulares, al margen de las propias observaciones privadas. Además, se indican algunos vacíos en el Ensayo, debidos a la dificultad de consultar determinadas fuentes, como es el caso de la intendencia de Guadalajara: el censo de 1793 y el estado económico elaborado por Abascal y Sousa.

This article analyzes which they were the written sources that they were good Humboldt for the elaboration of its Ensayo. He stands out the generous welcome on the part of the viceroy Iturrigaray and the facilities excused the learned from Berlin to consent to the official documentation. On the other hand, it used abundant information offered by the matters, to the margin of the own private observations. Also, some holes are indicated in the Ensayo, due to the difficulty of consulting certain sources, like it is the case of the intendency of Guadalajara: the census of 1793 and the economic state elaborated by Abascal and Sousa.
