Vida y objetos domésticos en el Magrib en yumadà II 761/mayo 1360 según Ibn al-Jatib

Abstract

Mientras estaba exiliado en Marruecos con su soberano Muhammad V, el visir Ibn al-Jatib visitó la tribu de los Hintata en 1360, y nos ha dejado un relato de una tienda de campaña, un banquete, una casa, el ajuar de sus interiores y su vajilla. Su texto nos revela el vocabulario usado en el siglo XIV para describir estos elementos. Éste y su texto sobre el mawlid celebrado en la Alhambra en 1362, son, por el momento, los dos únicos relatos nazaríes contemporáneos que conocemos, de aquí la importancia de este texto.

When he was in exile in Morocco with his sovereign Muhammad V, the vizier Ibn al-Khatib visited the Hintata tribe in 1360, and has left us a description of a military-campaing tent, a banquet, a house, and their furnishings and the crockery used. His text reveals the vocabulary used in the fourteenth century for describing all these things. This text, and his description of the 1362 mawlid festivity in the Alhambra are, at present, the only two contemporary Nasrid accounts known to us, hence the importance of this text.
