Abstract
Las mujeres que vivieron en el Occidente romano durante los tres primeros siglos de nuestra era fueron protagonistas de un mecenazgo cívico que provocó cambios en el modelo tradicional de la civitas. La impronta de las mujeres en la arquitectura urbana, la feminización de las relaciones cívicas, la transformacíón de la imagen e identidad de las ciudades y el ejercicio de poder económico, social y cívico desplegado por las mujeres en las ciudades constituyó un proceso tan singular que necesita un concepto propio, el de matronazgo, para ser reconocido en la historia. Women who lived in the Roman West in the irst three centuries AD were particípants In a civic patronage that led to changes in the traditional model of the civitas. The imprint of women in urban architecture, the feminization of civic relations, the transformation of the image and identity of cities and the exercise of economic, social and civic women deployed in the cities was a singular process that need a concept, that of matronage, to be recognized in history.
