De raza indómita a terroristas, de Ercilla a Bachelet. Notas sobre la relación del Estado chileno con el pueblo mapuche

Abstract

El artículo examina la evolución y desarrollo de las formas que han adquirido las relaciones del Estado (hispano y chileno) con el pueblo mapuche a través de diversos ciclos históricos, con énfasis en el período post ocupación militar chilena en La Araucanía. A lo largo del texto se hace referencia a los principales hitos que marcan dicha relación y se relevan las imágenes y estereotipos construidos acerca del mapuche. Finalmente, el autor concluye que la relación establecida, en cada época, ha estado mediada por el prejuicio racista y el modelo político económico instalado en Chile.

The article examines the evolution and development of the relations of the state of Chile (Hispanic and Chilean) with the Mapuche people have acquired through various historical cycles, with an emphasis on the period of post-Chilean military occupation of La Araucanía. Throughout the text, reference is made to the main milestones marking that relationship, revealing the images and stereotypes built around the Mapuche. Finally, the author concludes that the relationship, in every age, has been mediated by racist bias as well as by the prevailing political and economic model in Chile.
