Los confines del sistema de parentesco y su evolución histórica

Abstract

A veces resulta difícil acertar con una perspectiva adecuada en lo concerniente a la comprensión del parentesco. Es cierto que el análisis del parentesco, la familia o el matrimonio nos los descubre como un sistema enormemente complejo, intrincado, en el que se articulan dimensiones heteróclitas y donde intervienen diversos principios de organización. Por ello, para delimitar mejor su concepto, es conveniente explorar sus fronteras, deslindar dónde no existe tal sistema, dónde se disuelve, dónde se imita simplemente y, al mismo tiempo, tratar de entender en concreto cómo ha evolucionado históricamente y cómo sigue evolucionando en respuesta a las solicitaciones de cada época.

At times it proves difficult to establish the correct perspective concerning the understanding of kinship. It is true that the analysis of kinship, family, or matrimony uncovers an enormously complex and intricate system in which irregularities appear and where diverse principles of organization are involved. Consequently, a clearer delineation of the concept requires its limits to be explored and its boundaries to be defined, identifying where it dissolves or where it is simply imitated, while at the same time seeking to understand precisely how it has evolved historically and how it continues to evolve in response to the demands of each period.
