It is remarkable the lack of interest and motivation that occurs during adolescence, especially in matters related to school, which generates later dropout problems and low academic performance, especially in developing countries. Regarding this, school engagement becomes a matter of great interest for educational researchers and practitioners, especially at a time when Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) conditions the relationship of adolescents with the school. To increase the understanding of this phenomenon, a systematic literature review was conducted with the purpose of identifying aspects of the use of ICT in school engagement strengthening. Results highlight the collaborative activities, active student participation and ICT pedagogy, and skills development as the main enablers of the increase of their confidence and learning goals achievement

In the study reported in this article, the gaze of university students to the teaching practice through their Smartphone is the protagonist of the permanent training of their teachers. Specifically, the motivations that lead them to take photographs are analyzed, as well as the functionality assigned to their mobiles. Both the intentions and the functions are not visible, they are internal, intimate mental processes, which must be accessed with qualitative techniques. For this, a multiple case study has been carried out. Photo-elicitation has been the main information gathering procedure. The categories that contain the results have emerged from the data. It concludes by showing as the main motivation the recording of moments of teaching-learning processes related to the contents, or with the tasks, among others, that were something special, extraordinary, for the students (according to their meaning, feelings of surprise or affected). The photographed moments were important for the students to evaluate their teachers. Mobile phones have had a double function: creating images to represent ideas or sensations and, also, reproducing them through the screen to be able to analyze their content, reflect and debate on the meaning and its relevance in the professional development of teachers and in student learning. Both functions, supported by photo-elicitation processes and promoting innovative training situations, have been shown to be relevant for a quality university digital transformation.

Service Learning is an educational practice that promotes learning processes of eclectic and thorough contents, competences and values through a community service and its critical review with the help of reflective tools. Its implementation is necessary, particularly in teacher training, in order to foster change in the education system and to progress towards sustainability. In this paper, we describe and analyse three projects involving the use of Service Learning related to sustainability in the practicum phase of initial teacher training. In order to evaluate the suitability of Service Learning in this stage, we have analysed outputs generated by the teacher trainees under the Rubric for the Self-Assessment and Improvement of Service Learning (RSAISL) projects (Rubio-Serrano, Puig-Rovira, Martín-García and Palos-Rodríguez, 2015). The results show that the trainees are capable of leading and executing successful Service Learning projects at schools, despite the limiting factors, such as time constraints or the lack of consolidation of some of these projects.; El aprendizaje servicio es una práctica educativa en que la realización de un servicio comunitario y la revisión crítica del proceso mediante herramientas de reflexión vehicula aprendizajes eclécticos y matizados en cuanto a contenidos, competencias y valores.

The recognition and protection of childhood´s rights are a central area of socio-educational theories, policies and practices. A plural conception of the dimensions of children’s and young people’s well-being requires different perspectives, strategies and decisions, macro some of them, meso and micro anothers, about which this article is about. The theoretical framework has been the basis for the development of socio-educational inclusion, innovation and participatory research projects, carrying out various experiences with children that promote the protagonism of children and young people and the involvement and collaboration of different socio-educational agents. The research method explains the objectives set and the decisions taken when designing, implementing and evaluating various micro-projects carried out in a municipality in the Basque Country. After presenting, analysing and evaluating the processes and results achieved, the most important conclusions are offered. On the one hand, the most positive aspects have been the involvement, coordination, collaboration and participatory research of different agents, the protagonism of children and young people, the reinforcement of the sense of identity, belonging and community links, and the strengthening of the community's capacity to participate. On the other, the difficulty of transforming cultures and practices in line with genuine inclusion and socio-educational innovation represent barriers to overcome in such initiatives, so as limited resources and times and the sustainability of initiatives such as those carried out. In any case, it is evident that socio-educational and innovative projects for inclusion is needed in order to guarantee the rights and wellbeing of children in municipal contexts engaging multiple agents and social networks.
Quizá esta perspectiva holística, multidimensional y compleja contenga el potencial necesario para generar información valiosa y estrategias de cambio efectivas.; The relevance of identity and professional identity research topics is part of an epistemological reformulation in social research, which assumes that, in order to understand the complex problems of contemporary society, it is necessary to focus on the interpretation that social actors develop about themselves and their world. This article analyses, through a theoretical review and from a genealogical perspective, the background and foundations of this postulate in order to recreate the premises of a research on school principals’ professional identity, school improvement and leadership, currently in force in Spain. It addresses the arguments provided by three interrelated scientific fields: Social Sciences, and Research on School Improvement and Leadership, in the International and Spanish contexts. The combination of these contributions recreates the complex and challenging scenario that school principals must face in the configuration of their professional identities as pedagogical leaders in the world and in Spain, revealing that the approach to the issue requires to consider these three dimensions. The configuration of the meaning that school principals give to their profession takes place in a complex territory in which inertias of diverse nature and scale are interwoven: global and local, political, economic, social, psychological, cultural and historical. It is in the recognition of the different dimensions and scales that come into play, spatial and temporal, and the junctures/points of connection between the different arguments provided by the literature, that a deeper understanding of the issue and its relevance becomes possible. Perhaps this holistic, multidimensional and complex perspective holds the potential to generate valuable information and effective change strategies.
