abstract = {In this paper the author analyses the image of the Messiah as depicted by the Jewish-Hellenistic historians Philo of Alexandria and Flavius Josephus. Philo's image is basically of an eschatological nature clearly sharing Hellenistic philosophical concepts. In the works of Josephus, however, several types can be distinguished, having all in common the human nature of the Messiah and his influence on historical events.},
